Patriarch and defender of the faith, known for his opposition to the heretic Dioscurus at the Council of Chalcedon. The patriarch of Constantinople, he is called a prophet and a miracle worker, despite the political turmoil that surrounded him. Anatolius also fought the Nestorian heresy at the Council of Ephesus. When he was seriously ill, St. Daniel the Stylite restored him to health. Anatolius' death has long been viewed as a possible murder by local heretics.
